Traditional Flamenco show in Spain
That wonderfully passionate dance, the Flamenco, has come to represent the whole of Spain but it all began in the small region of Andalucia, the town of Jerez de la Frontera in particular. The town holds an annual Jerez Flamenco Festival in February and March with workshops where you can learn to dance the flamenco, exhibitions of history and famous dancers, and of course daily performances.
The other place to visit in Jerez is the Andalusian Flamenco Center. Located in the Santiago district of town its in the lovely 18th century Casa Palacio Pemartin, the center was established in 1993 to protect the integrity of flamenco, as well as providing a museum and library of the history and artefacts of the dance. To discover flamenco you can follow the Jerez Flamenco Route which will guide you around the main sites, history and anecdotes, naturally ending up in one of the premier clubs: La Taberna Flamenca (Angostillo de Santiago, 3), Tablao del Bereber (Cabezas, 10), and El Laga de Tio Parrilla (Plaza del Mercado). If you want a bit of castanet clacking, heel stomping and passionate guitar revving up your life, Jerez is the place for you.
